Everton have completed the signing of Louis Saha from Manchester United, but prospective loan signing Victor Obinna has been denied a work permit. The 30-year-old, who scored 42 goals in 124 appearances for United, has agreed on a two-year contract with the option of a third year for an undisclosed fee.
Everton will pay nothing up front for the injury-prone Saha, with the fee entirely dependent on appearances.
Saha, who has 18 international caps, becomes Everton’s third major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Denmark defender Lars Jacobsen and Ecuador midfielder Segundo Castillo. Read the rest of this entry »

Alex Ferguson has admitted he is aiming to add a striker to his Manchester United squad before the start of the season. United have been heavily linked with a bid for Tottenham Hotspur star Dimitar Berbatov as Ferguson looks to improve his attacking options.
With Wayne Rooney struggling with a virus, Cristiano Ronaldo out until October, and Louis Saha continuing to battle with his fitness, Ferguson is short of cover up front. The likes of Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Karim Benzema have also been linked with moves to Old Trafford, and Ferguson confirmed he has several options to consider. Read the rest of this entry »

Chelsea have submitted a big-money bid for Real Madrid and Brazil forward Robinho. Reports had earlier claimed that the Blues submitted a £19.7 million offer for the former Santos star. “Further to media reports, Chelsea Football Club can confirm we have made an offer to Real Madrid today for the transfer of Robinho,” the London club stated.
Robinho was said to feel unwanted by Real during their lengthy chase for Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo, during which he was touted as a makeweight. The 24-year-old was also disappointed by the Liga club’s insistence that he remain in Spain instead of joining the Brazil Olympic squad, in which he was named as an overage player.
Robinho was reported by the Spanish press as wanting to work with new Chelsea boss and fellow Brazilian Luiz Felipe Scolari.
“It would be a dream for me to work with Luiz Felipe Scolari, who is one of the best coaches in the world,” he told them. Read the rest of this entry »

Even by transfer silly season standards, the Gazzetta dello Sport’s claim that Chelsea are hoping to sign Kaka from Milan for a world record £119 million takes some believing, Tom Williams argues. Quite apart from the ludicrously inflated fee, it is difficult to see where Kaka would fit into the Chelsea system, even if that system is a work in progress given the short space of time that new coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has had to work on it.
As is common when a coach arrives at a new club, Scolari quickly turned to a trusted former charge, with Deco arriving from Barcelona for £8 million only a few days after Scolari himself had been installed as Blues manager. Read the rest of this entry »

Even though he said he would like to remain at Real Madrid, Robinho just declared that it would be a dream to join Chelsea. The attacker said that everyone wants him at Chelsea and the club even increased their offer for him. Robinho wants to work with his former coach, Luiz Felipe Scolari, one of the best coaches in the world and his agent said that he is not too appreciated in Madrid and considers a move from the club. The brazilian striker is planning to play for Brazil at the Olympic games because that’s the only title Brazil misses. If he moves to Chelsea he will need to skip that because the training schedule is pretty hard and he is willing to give up everything if he starts playing for the club from Stanford Bridge. Scolari has changed the club a lot and with these recent transfers the club is ready to win the champions league.
